How To SEO Your Website In 5 Simple Steps

By admin | October 28, 2009

For the aveage Webmaster, SEO is something that only people with years of experience can master. As a SEO in Houston it’s my belief that a lot of this is due to all the crap spouted out by scores of people calling their self SEO experts. For some, this is because they do not have a clue about SEO while some others do it to justify the ongoing fees they charge their Clients. SEO isn’t rocket science peeps. It’s a systematic series of procedures that if done properly, will cause a Website to move up in the rankings.

To set the foundation for your website, a person should make certain the main keywords are used in the domain name if it’s possible. With everything being equal, a site with keywords in the address will outrank a website without the keywords in the web address.

Next, the you keywords should be included in the Website name. By doing this, you’re helping search engines like Google,Yahoo and MSN figure out what it is that you Website is all about.

You should also use keywords in the Title of each page or article on your site, or at the bare minimum, you should use some keywords in the title of the page or article. This too helps the search engines figure out what the subject of the page is, what it’s about and how relevant it is to the search term being searched for. As an added benefit, the website should be coded in such a manner as to include the Title of each page in a H1 tag. There should only be one H1 tag per page for the best results. Search engines give a lot of value to the H1 tag and so it’s important in good SEO practices. If you’re using a web design company company, make certain they know how to do this one little thing.

You should now have those three things taken care of. Now that you do, it is important that the keywords you want to rank for show up within the page itself. For best results, you should place the main keyword of the page somewhere in the first paragraph and several more times througout the article depending on the length. It’s also important to put it near the end of the page or article. A few more times between the first and last paragraph can’t hurt but don’t over do it, in summary, just make sure you use them at the first of the article and again at the end.

Finally, the most important aspect of Website SE Optimization actually takes place off your Website. In my opinion, the most important thing in in getting a higher ranking in Google is backlinks leading back to your page on your Website. And it’s not enough to just get backlinks, these links back to your site need to have your keywords as the Anchor text of the backlinks.

How important are backward links? Well, I can rank a website that doesn’t have the keywords in the domain, one that doesn’t have keywords in the Website Title, Page Title and in the Content (although it’s much, much harder to do), but without anchored backward links going to your web page, {it is impossible} to get ranked higher for any search terms that are the least bit in high demand.
